Songthaew Guide
Songthaews, or 'baht buses', are Pattaya's most popular public transport. These converted pickup trucks with two rows of seating run fixed routes throughout the city.
How to Use a Songthaew
1. Flag it Down
Stand at the roadside and wave when you see a songthaew. The driver will slow down if there's space.
2. Hop On
Climb in from the back and sit on the side benches. No need to state your destination for regular routes.
3. Press the Buzzer
When approaching your destination, press the buzzer button or tap the metal railing to signal a stop.
4. Pay the Driver
Pass your fare through the driver's window after getting off. Standard fare is 10 THB.

Private Hire
You can hire a songthaew as a private taxi. For this option:
- Always agree on the price before boarding
- Expect to pay 100-300 THB depending on distance
- Late night prices will be higher
- Have cash ready as cards aren't accepted
Tip: For longer distances, ride-hailing apps like Bolt or Grab are often cheaper and more convenient.
Quick Tips
Know the Price
Standard fare is 10 THB for shared rides within Pattaya. Agree on price before boarding for private hires.
Signal to Stop
Press the buzzer button on the roof bar or tap on the metal railing when you want to get off.
Late Night Prices
After midnight, expect to pay 20-50 THB or negotiate a fixed price for your destination.
Avoid Tourist Traps
If a driver quotes 100+ THB for a short trip, politely decline and wait for another songthaew.
