    Driving in Pattaya

    Driving offers freedom to explore Pattaya and surrounding areas, but you'll need to be prepared for road conditions and traffic rules that may differ from home.

    Important Road Rules

    License Requirements

    To drive legally in Thailand, you need:

    • International Driving Permit (IDP) - Obtained from your home country before traveling. Valid for 1 year.
    • Original License - Carry your IDP along with your home country license at all times.
    • Thai License (for long-term residents) - If staying longer than 1 year, you'll need to obtain a Thai license.

    ⚠️ Driving without a valid license can void your insurance. Fines start at 2,000 THB.

    Street Parking

    Look for designated parking areas. Red and white curbs mean no parking. Fines are common.

    Shopping Malls

    Free parking usually with validation. Terminal 21, Central Festival offer large car parks.

    Most provide free parking for guests. Check with your accommodation beforehand.
