Skate Parks in Pattaya
The main public skate park is at Jomtien Beach — a small concrete park with a mini ramp, quarter pipes, and ledges. Central Festival Pattaya sometimes sets up temporary skating areas during events. The Pattaya Sports Complex area has flat ground suitable for street skating. Several private ramp setups exist at expat-owned properties. The closest large-scale skate park is in Bangkok (The Yard Hostel, Century Park).
Best Street Spots
The Walking Street area (daytime) has smooth marble ledges and flat ground. Bali Hai Pier offers wide, smooth concrete with ocean views. Central Festival's parking structure has smooth floors and natural features. Pratumnak Hill's winding road (early morning, minimal traffic) is popular with longboarders. Terminal 21 Pattaya's surroundings have good ledges and stairs. Always skate respectfully — security may ask you to leave private property.
Skate Shops & Gear
Dedicated skate shops are limited in Pattaya — most stock is found in Bangkok. Big C and Tesco Lotus carry basic complete boards (800–2,000 THB) for beginners. For quality gear: order from BKK skate shops (Preduce, Shreddog) with delivery to Pattaya in 1–2 days. Lazada and Shopee have decks, trucks, and wheels at competitive prices. Expect to pay 2,500–5,000 THB for a decent complete setup locally.
Skating Community
Pattaya has a small but active skating community, mostly Thai and expat skaters aged 15–35. Join the 'Pattaya Skateboarding' Facebook group to find session times and meet local skaters. Weekend sessions at the Jomtien park are the best way to connect. The community organizes occasional skate jams and video projects. Thai skaters are generally welcoming and happy to session with visitors.
Longboarding & Cruising
Pattaya's flat terrain and waterfront roads are great for cruising and longboarding. The Jomtien Beach promenade offers a smooth, long path ideal for evening cruises. Pratumnak Hill's roads provide the best downhill options (use caution — traffic exists). Beach Road (early morning, 5–7 AM) has minimal traffic and smooth pavement. Longboard rentals are not widely available — bring your own or buy locally.
Safety & Gear Tips
Helmet use is strongly recommended — Pattaya's road surfaces can be unpredictable. Wrist guards and knee pads are advisable for park skating. Watch for cracks, pebbles, and wet surfaces especially during rainy season. Thai drivers may not expect skaters on roads — stay visible and use bike lanes where available. Carry basic first aid supplies. The tropical heat means you'll dehydrate quickly — bring water to every session.
Weather & Best Times to Skate
Early morning (6–8 AM) and evening (5–8 PM) avoid the intense midday heat. Dry season (November–March) provides the best skating conditions. Rainy season (June–October) brings wet surfaces — indoor alternatives are limited. The heat affects urethane wheels — harder durometer wheels (99A+) handle Pattaya's hot concrete better. Night skating is popular — bring a headlamp or skate in well-lit areas.
Board Maintenance in Tropical Climate
Pattaya's humidity accelerates bearing rust — clean and oil bearings every 2–3 weeks (Bones Speed Cream available online). Grip tape loses adhesion faster in humid conditions — replace every 2–3 months. Store boards indoors in air conditioning — not on balconies or in garages. Wooden decks can warp in extreme humidity — keep them dry and stored flat. Sand from beach sessions clogs bearings — clean immediately after.
Surf Skating Scene
Surf skating has exploded in popularity in Thailand. Surf skate setups (Carver, Slide, YOW-style) are widely available on Lazada for 2,000–8,000 THB. The Jomtien promenade and Pattaya beach walkways are ideal for surf skating — smooth, flat, scenic. Thai surf skate communities are very active on social media. Surf skating requires no ramps — just flat ground and practice.
Events & Competitions
Pattaya occasionally hosts Go Skateboarding Day events (June 21st worldwide). Bangkok's skate scene hosts regular competitions that Pattaya skaters attend. Local skate jams are organized through Facebook groups — usually 2–4 per year. The Thailand Skateboarding Championship rotates between cities. Check 'Thailand Skateboarding' on Facebook for event announcements.
