Pet Relocation to Pattaya
Everything you need to bring your pet to Pattaya — import requirements, vaccinations, quarantine rules, airlines, vet services, pet-friendly condos, and supplies.
Import Requirements
Thailand requires a valid health certificate issued within 5 days of travel, a rabies vaccination certificate (at least 21 days before arrival), and an import permit from the Thai Department of Livestock Development. The import permit costs approximately 100 THB and takes 5–10 business days. All documents must be endorsed by your home country's veterinary authority.
Vaccinations & Microchip
Your pet must have a current rabies vaccination and ISO 15-digit microchip. Additional vaccines recommended include DHPP for dogs and FVRCP for cats. A rabies titer test is required if coming from non-rabies-free countries. Keep all vaccination records organized — Thai customs will check them.
Quarantine Rules
Thailand may impose a 30-day quarantine for pets arriving without proper documentation, though this is rarely enforced for pets with complete paperwork. Animals from rabies-free countries (Australia, Japan, UK, etc.) typically clear customs same-day. Quarantine facilities at Suvarnabhumi are basic — avoid this by ensuring all documents are in order.
Airlines & Pet Transport
Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Emirates accept pets in cargo on routes to Bangkok. Small pets under 7 kg may travel in-cabin on select airlines. Expect cargo fees of 15,000–40,000 THB depending on the origin. Pet relocation companies like Ferndale Kennels and SiamPetRelocate handle door-to-door logistics from 50,000 THB.
Arrival Process
Pets arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport cargo terminal. You or your agent must clear them through the Animal Quarantine Station within the airport. The process takes 2–6 hours with proper paperwork. After clearance in Bangkok, you can drive to Pattaya (90 minutes) or arrange a pet-friendly transfer service.
Veterinary Services in Pattaya
Pattaya has several quality vet clinics. Pattaya Animal Hospital on Sukhumvit Road is the largest with 24-hour emergency service. Jomtien Vet Clinic handles routine care from 500 THB per consultation. International Vet Clinic in Pratumnak has English-speaking vets. Annual checkups cost 1,500–3,000 THB.
Pet-Friendly Condos
Many Pattaya condos prohibit pets, so check before signing. Pet-friendly buildings include The Palm (Wongamat), some Lumpini units (building-dependent), and several low-rise developments in East Pattaya. Monthly rent for pet-friendly units: 10,000–25,000 THB. Expect a higher security deposit (typically 3 months) for pet owners.
Pet-Friendly Accommodation
For short stays, several hotels accept pets including some boutique properties in Jomtien. Airbnb listings often allow pets — filter for pet-friendly options. Serviced apartments in Pratumnak are more flexible than condos. Always confirm pet policies and any additional cleaning fees (typically 1,000–3,000 THB).
Pet Supplies & Food
Pet shops are plentiful — major chains include Pet Lovers Centre at Central Festival and Tops Market pet sections in most branches. Premium imported pet food (Royal Canin, Hill's) costs 800–2,500 THB per bag. Local brands like SmartHeart are budget-friendly at 200–500 THB. Online ordering through Lazada and Shopee offers the best prices.
Dog Parks & Exercise
While dedicated dog parks are limited, several areas work well. The Mabprachan Reservoir area has open spaces for off-leash running. Jomtien Beach allows dogs in early morning (before 8 AM). Some condo developments have small pet areas. East Pattaya housing estates often have quiet sois perfect for walks.
Pet Grooming & Boarding
Professional grooming services cost 500–1,500 THB depending on pet size and service. Pet boarding kennels charge 300–800 THB per night. PetCamp Pattaya and Happy Dog Resort in East Pattaya are popular boarding options. Many groomers offer pickup and delivery service within Pattaya.
Pet Insurance & Emergency
Pet insurance in Thailand is available through companies like Deves and Dhipaya from 3,000–8,000 THB per year. Coverage includes accidents and illness up to 30,000–100,000 THB. For emergencies, Pattaya Animal Hospital operates 24/7. Keep your vet's emergency number saved — response times are generally fast.
