Motorcycle Rentals — 200–800 THB/Day
Honda Click 125cc (automatic) rents for 200–300 THB/day — the most popular choice for casual riders. Honda PCX 150cc runs 300–400 THB/day with more power for hills. For manual bikes, Honda CRF250 trail bikes cost 600–800 THB/day. Big bikes (Kawasaki Ninja, Honda CB500) rent for 800–1,500 THB/day. Weekly and monthly discounts of 20–40% are standard. Always check brakes, tires, and lights before riding.
Silverlake Vineyard Route
One of the most scenic rides from Pattaya: head south on Sukhumvit, turn onto Route 3240 toward Silverlake Vineyard (30 km, 45 minutes). The winding road passes through green hills with lake views. Entry to Silverlake is 50 THB (redeemable on food/drink). Continue to nearby Swiss Sheep Farm (100 THB entry) and Nong Nooch Garden (500 THB). Best ridden early morning before the heat.
Khao Chi Chan & Buddha Mountain
Ride to Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain) via Route 3240 — a massive golden Buddha laser-carved into a cliff face. Free entry. The surrounding countryside is beautiful for motorcycling with minimal traffic. Combine with a stop at Wat Yannasangwararam (free entry, stunning architecture) and the nearby Viharn Sien Chinese temple (50 THB). Total loop from Pattaya: about 60 km.
Mabprachan Lake Loop
A relaxed 20 km loop around Mabprachan Lake in East Pattaya. The road is flat and quiet with lakeside views, local restaurants, and minimal traffic. Great for beginners. Stop at lakeside Thai restaurants for lunch (80–150 THB/dish). The area is popular with cycling groups too. Best on weekday mornings when roads are empty.
Coastal Road to Bang Saray
Ride south from Jomtien along the coastal road through Na Jomtien to Bang Saray fishing village (25 km). The road hugs the coast with sea views. Bang Saray has excellent fresh seafood restaurants (200–500 THB for a seafood meal). Visit the local fishing pier and the quiet beach. Continue to the Navy Golf Course viewpoint for panoramic ocean views.
Pattaya to Rayong Day Trip
For experienced riders, the Pattaya-to-Rayong route (90 km via Route 36) offers varied terrain. Visit Mae Phim Beach, Khao Laem Ya National Park (200 THB entry), and the Rayong Aquarium. The return trip can loop through Ban Chang and Sattahip. Allow a full day (6–8 hours with stops). Fuel up before leaving — gas stations are sparse on some stretches.
Fuel & Gas Stations
Petrol costs approximately 35–40 THB/liter for gasohol 91 and 40–45 THB for 95. A Honda Click gets 40–50 km per liter. Gas stations (PTT, Shell, Bangchak) are plentiful in Pattaya but can be scarce on rural routes. Always start with a full tank. Most rental bikes run on gasohol 91. Pay at the pump or inside — both cash and QR code payments are accepted.
Safety & Gear Essentials
Helmets are legally required and fines are 500 THB without one. Rental shops provide basic helmets but consider buying your own (800–3,000 THB at HomePro or Lazada). Wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a light jacket. Sunscreen is essential. Avoid riding during heavy rain — Thai roads become extremely slippery. Drive on the left side. International Driving Permit (IDP) is technically required.
Road Hazards to Know
Watch for: stray dogs (they chase bikes), sand on curves, unmarked speed bumps, open drainage grates, and trucks making wide turns. Thai drivers rarely check mirrors before turning. Songthaews (shared taxis) stop without warning. At night, unlit vehicles and pedestrians are common hazards. Avoid riding after dark outside the city. Road quality deteriorates quickly on rural side roads.
Rental Tips & Insurance
Most shops require a passport or 2,000–5,000 THB deposit. Never leave your passport — use cash deposit or a photocopy. Take photos/video of the bike before renting, noting any existing damage. Basic insurance is usually included but check the excess (deductible) — it can be 10,000–30,000 THB. Personal accident insurance is extra but worth 100–200 THB/day.
Guided Tour Options
For those who prefer a guide, organized motorcycle tours cost 2,500–5,000 THB per person for a full-day tour including bike, fuel, guide, lunch, and insurance. Companies like Pattaya Motorcycle Tours and Big Bike Tours Pattaya offer routes to Khao Kheow Zoo, Silverlake, and countryside temples. Group sizes are typically 4–10 riders. Custom private tours are available for 5,000–8,000 THB.
Best Time to Ride
Early morning (6–9 AM) offers cool temperatures and empty roads — ideal for photography. Avoid midday (11 AM–2 PM) when heat is extreme. Late afternoon (4–6 PM) provides good light but heavier traffic returning to Pattaya. The cool season (November–February) is the best period overall. Rainy season (June–October) brings afternoon downpours — plan rides for mornings only.
