Safety Tips
- Always wear a helmet — it's the law and police fine 500 baht
- Get an International Driving Permit (IDP) with motorcycle endorsement before arriving
- Thai traffic drives on the LEFT side of the road
- Never ride after drinking — DUI checkpoints are common, especially on weekends
- Watch for sand on road corners, especially near construction sites
- Use the left lane on multi-lane roads — faster traffic passes on the right
- Be extremely cautious at U-turns — they're the most dangerous intersections
- Always photograph the bike from all angles BEFORE renting (document existing damage)
- Keep rental agreement and your IDP with you at all times while riding
- Don't leave passport as deposit — a copy or cash deposit should be sufficient
