Stay Calm & Secure Yourself
Don't panic. A lost or stolen passport is stressful but solvable. First, check your hotel safe, bags, and pockets thoroughly. If it's stolen, note the time, location, and any details about the theft. Keep a copy of your passport photo page on your phone — this speeds up everything.
Call Tourist Police — 1155
Thailand's Tourist Police hotline (1155) operates 24/7 with English-speaking officers. They can assist with filing reports and liaising with local police. The Pattaya Tourist Police office is on Soi 9, Beach Road. They're more helpful than regular police for passport cases.
File a Police Report
Go to Pattaya Police Station (Soi 9, near Beach Road) or the Tourist Police office. You need a police report (ใบแจ้งความ) for your embassy application. Bring any ID you have — driver's license, passport copy, hotel booking. The report typically costs nothing and takes 30–60 minutes.
Contact Your Embassy or Consulate
Most embassies have emergency consular services. The US Embassy in Bangkok (02-205-4000) has an after-hours emergency line. The UK Embassy (02-305-8333) and Australian Embassy (02-344-6300) also handle emergency travel documents. Some embassies have honorary consuls closer to Pattaya.
US Citizens — Emergency Passport
US Embassy Bangkok (95 Wireless Road) issues emergency passports. Bring your police report, 2 passport photos (4x6 cm), any ID, and USD $194 (or THB equivalent, approximately 6,800 THB in 2026). Processing takes 1–3 business days for emergencies. Call 02-205-4000 first for an appointment.
UK Citizens — Emergency Travel Document
Apply online at gov.uk for an Emergency Travel Document (ETD), which costs £100 (approximately 4,500 THB). The British Embassy Bangkok (14 Wireless Road) processes these in 1–2 working days. You'll need your police report, 2 photos, and proof of travel. Call 02-305-8333 for guidance.
Australian Citizens — Emergency Passport
Australian Embassy Bangkok (181 Wireless Road, Lumpini) issues emergency passports for AUD $193 (approximately 4,600 THB). Call 02-344-6300 or the 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre at +61 2 6261 3305. Bring police report, photos, and proof of citizenship if available.
EU Citizens — Consular Assistance
EU citizens can seek help from any EU member state's embassy if their own country has no representation. Germany (02-287-9000), France (02-657-5100), and the Netherlands (02-309-5200) all have Bangkok embassies. Processing time and costs vary by country — typically 1–3 days and €50–150.
Get Passport Photos Quickly
You'll need passport-size photos for your embassy application. In Pattaya, photo shops on Second Road and in shopping malls (Central Festival, Terminal 21) offer instant passport photos for 100–200 THB for 6 prints. Some 7-Eleven stores also have photo booths.
Getting to Bangkok for Your Embassy
Most embassies are in Bangkok. Take a bus from Pattaya Bus Terminal (North Pattaya Road) — buses leave every 30 minutes, cost 120–150 THB, and take about 2 hours. Alternatively, Grab/Bolt to Bangkok costs 1,500–2,500 THB. Some embassies accept mail-in applications for non-urgent cases.
Money & Communication Without Passport
Without a passport, you can still use ATMs with your debit card, access Western Union with alternative ID, and use mobile banking. Your hotel should not hold you — explain the situation and show the police report. For phone service, your existing SIM continues working.
Prevent Future Loss — Digital Copies
Store passport scans in cloud storage (Google Drive, iCloud). Email yourself a copy. Use apps like Smart Traveler (US) or register with your embassy before travel. Consider a passport holder with RFID blocking. Leave your passport in the hotel safe when going out — carry a photocopy instead.
