    Koh Larn Island Guide

Crystal-clear water just 30 minutes from Pattaya — your complete guide to beaches, ferries, snorkeling, and island life on Koh Larn.

    Ferry from Bali Hai Pier

Regular ferries depart Bali Hai Pier (South Pattaya) every hour from 7:00–18:30. The ride takes 30–45 minutes and costs 30 THB one way. Speedboats are available for 200–300 THB and take 15 minutes. Last ferry back to Pattaya is typically at 18:00 (confirm at pier).

    Tawaen Beach

The largest and most popular beach on Koh Larn. White sand, clear turquoise water, and plenty of sun loungers (100 THB/day). Food stalls, restaurants, and water sports line the beach. Gets crowded on weekends — arrive before 10:00 for best spots.

    Samae Beach

A beautiful crescent-shaped beach on the south side. Less crowded than Tawaen with excellent swimming conditions. More relaxed atmosphere with fewer vendors. Sun loungers available (100 THB). Some of the clearest water on the island.

    Tien Beach

The most secluded and picturesque beach. Smaller and quieter, reached by a steep path or songthaew. Crystal-clear water ideal for snorkeling. Limited facilities — bring your own drinks and snacks. Best for those wanting peace and quiet.

    Snorkeling & Diving

Decent snorkeling off Tien and Nual beaches with visibility of 5–15 meters depending on season. Coral reefs are recovering from previous damage. Mask and snorkel rental available at beaches for 100–200 THB. For better diving, book trips to the south side reefs.

    Motorbike Rental

Rent a scooter at Na Ban pier for 300–400 THB/day to explore the island independently. The island is small (about 4 km long) and roads are hilly but paved. International driving license technically required but rarely checked. Wear a helmet — roads are steep.

    Food & Restaurants

Fresh seafood restaurants cluster around Na Ban village and Tawaen Beach. Grilled squid, prawns, and fish from 150–400 THB per dish. Thai food stalls offer pad thai and fried rice from 60–100 THB. Prices are 20–30% higher than mainland Pattaya.

    Koh Larn Viewpoint

A hilltop viewpoint near the center of the island offers panoramic views of Pattaya's coastline and surrounding islands. Accessible by motorbike or a 20-minute uphill walk. Best visited in late afternoon for sunset lighting. Free entry.

    Water Sports

Jet skis (800–1,500 THB/30 min), parasailing (600–800 THB), banana boats (300 THB), and sea walking (1,500 THB) are all available at Tawaen and Samae beaches. Negotiate prices — especially on weekdays. Always confirm insurance coverage before jet ski rental.

    Best Time to Visit

November to February offers the best weather — clear skies, calm seas, and comfortable temperatures. Weekdays are significantly less crowded than weekends. Avoid major Thai holidays (Songkran, long weekends) when the island gets extremely packed.

    Overnight Stays

Budget guesthouses from 500–800 THB/night, mid-range resorts 1,200–2,500 THB/night. Staying overnight lets you enjoy empty beaches after day-trippers leave. Na Ban village has the most accommodation options. Book ahead for weekends and holidays.

    Safety Tips

Wear reef shoes when swimming — some areas have coral and sea urchins. Apply waterproof sunscreen generously. Keep valuables secure on the beach. Check ferry schedules to avoid being stranded. Drink plenty of water — there's limited shade on some beaches.
