    Hidden Gems in Pattaya

Secret beaches, forgotten temples, off-the-beaten-path restaurants, and stunning viewpoints that most tourists never discover.

    Secret Beaches

Cozy Beach (near Pratumnak) is a tiny cove most tourists miss — crystal-clear water, almost no crowds, and a small restaurant. Hat Sai Kaew military beach south of Jomtien requires a small entry fee (50 THB) but has pristine sand. Dong Tan Beach (north end of Jomtien) is peaceful and shaded by trees.

    Wat Yanasangwararam

This royal temple complex 20 km south of central Pattaya is sprawling, serene, and almost empty of tourists. Features a beautiful lake, Chinese-style pavilion, Swiss chalet, and impressive murals. Free entry. Pair it with the adjacent Viharn Sien Chinese temple and art museum (50 THB). Allow 2–3 hours.

    Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain)

A 130-meter-tall laser-carved Buddha image on a cliff face, 15 km from Pattaya. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and a lotus pond. Free entry. Almost no tourists on weekdays despite being genuinely awe-inspiring. Best photographed in the morning when sunlight hits the carving directly.

    Off-the-Path Restaurants

Glass Noodle Soup Grandma on Soi Khao Noi — a legendary street stall with 40 THB noodle soups locals queue for. Nong O Seafood (near Sattahip) has the freshest and cheapest seafood around (150–300 THB dishes). Baan Rim Khlong on Sukhumvit serves riverside Thai food with zero tourist markup.

    Anek Kusala Sala (Viharn Sien)

This Chinese art museum houses over 300 artifacts including bronze sculptures, ceramics, and paintings from the Qing Dynasty. A stunning collection rivaling museum exhibits in major cities. Entry 50 THB. Located next to Wat Yanasangwararam. Most visitors to Pattaya never discover this treasure.

    Phra Tamnak Hill Viewpoint

Between Pattaya and Jomtien, this hilltop viewpoint offers sweeping views of both bays. Much less crowded than Big Buddha Hill (which is adjacent). Walk past the Big Buddha and follow the path south to quieter viewpoints. Free and accessible by foot or motorbike. Best at sunrise or sunset.

    Naklua Fish Market

While tourists flock to Pattaya Floating Market, the authentic Naklua fish market (Lan Pho) is where locals buy fresh seafood daily from 05:00–10:00. Buy prawns, crabs, squid, and fish at wholesale prices. Some vendors will grill your purchase on the spot. A genuine slice of Thai coastal life.

    Silverlake Winery Back Roads

Beyond the main Silverlake vineyard, the surrounding back roads are dotted with quirky cafes, small farms, and viewpoints that most tourists miss. Rent a scooter and explore — you'll find sheep farms, lavender fields, hilltop coffee shops with lake views, and almost no other tourists. The area is beautiful at any time.

    Khao Phra Bat Cave Temple

A hilltop temple 25 minutes from central Pattaya with caves containing Buddhist shrines, bats at dusk, and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Free entry. Monks are friendly and welcoming. The steep staircase keeps crowds away — about 300 steps to the top. Bring water and wear proper shoes.

    Jomtien Soi 5 Local Scene

While most visitors stick to the main Jomtien beach road, Soi 5 and surrounding sois have a thriving local expat community with authentic Thai restaurants, tiny bars, and genuine neighborhood atmosphere. Meals from 50–120 THB, cold beers from 60 THB. A world away from the tourist strip.

    Mabprachan Reservoir

This large reservoir 10 km inland is surrounded by quiet roads perfect for cycling. Locals jog and bike here at dawn. Small lakeside restaurants serve Thai food with water views for 60–150 THB. No tourists, no touts — just peaceful Thai countryside minutes from the city. Rent bikes from shops on Soi Siam.

    Wat Khao Phra Bat Pattaya

Not to be confused with the cave temple — this lesser-known hilltop wat on Pratumnak has colorful murals, a meditation hall, and stunning city-side views. Free entry. The monks sometimes invite visitors for a chat and blessing. Visit early morning (06:00–08:00) to see monks collecting alms along the hill.
