Question 1

Is Walking Street safe at night?

Accepted Answer

Walking Street is generally safe with heavy police presence, but stay alert. Common issues include drink spiking, overcharging, and pickpockets. Stick to reputable venues, don't flash valuables, and always agree on prices before ordering.

Question 2

How can I avoid drink spiking?

Accepted Answer

Never leave drinks unattended. Order bottled drinks when possible and watch them being opened. Avoid accepting drinks from strangers. If you feel suddenly unwell, alert friends immediately and seek help from venue security.

Question 3

What bar scams should I watch out for?

Accepted Answer

Common scams include: inflated bills after drinking, 'coyote' ladies ordering expensive drinks, hidden 'service charges', and fake police demanding fines. Always check prices upfront, keep receipts, and pay as you go in unfamiliar venues.

Question 4

What are the rules in go-go bars?

Accepted Answer

Entry is usually free but drinks are required. Lady drinks (buying drinks for staff) are expected if you want company. Bar fines apply if taking staff outside. Photography is typically prohibited. Always clarify prices before agreeing to anything.

Question 5

Is it safe to go out alone at night?

Accepted Answer

Solo nightlife is common but take precautions. Share your location with someone, avoid excessive drinking, and use reputable transport. Stay in well-lit areas and trust your instincts. Buddy systems are always safer.

Question 6

How do I avoid taxi scams at night?

Accepted Answer

Use Grab or Bolt apps for transparent pricing. If using street taxis, insist on the meter or agree on price before getting in. Avoid taxis parked outside clubs—they often overcharge. Screenshot your route and share your ride status with friends.

Question 7

What should I know about police checkpoints?

Accepted Answer

Police checkpoints are common at night, especially near nightlife areas. Always carry your passport or a copy. Drink-driving is strictly enforced. If stopped, remain calm and polite. Legitimate officers have badges and ID—beware of impersonators demanding cash.

Question 8

What are the closing times for bars and clubs?

Accepted Answer

Legal closing times are typically 2 AM for most bars and clubs. Walking Street venues may stay open until 3-4 AM. Times can change during holidays or special enforcement periods. Some 'after-hours' venues operate later but operate in a gray area.
